Regional leaders attend funeral of ex-Puntland VP in Garowe

Presidents of Jubbaland and Galmudug arrived in Garowe Wednesday to attend the funeral of former Puntland Vice President Mohamed Abdi Hashi.

The two leaders are joining their host Abdullahi Deni for the funeral of the departed leader who died this week in Nairobi.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Hassan Khaire will be leading the nation alongside the regional leaders in a state funeral for former Prime Minister Hassan Farah who also passed on this week in Turkey. The former premier had been undergoing treatment.

The leaders will then head back to Dhusamareb where they will be joined by President Mohamed Farmaajo for a joint meeting.

The meeting is expected to deliberate and come up with a unified front on the fate of elections. The electoral commission NIEC announced early this month a universal vote will not be possible this year.

The meeting bringing together the leaders of the regional governments and federal government is a rare one in the recent past owing to disputes between the two levels of government.
