President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has said the country faces external and internal enemies trying to destabilize Somalia.

Speaking to Somali National Army officials on Monday, President Farmajo vowed that his government will deal harshly with mercenaries and moles working to topple Somali government.

“The country is facing internal and external enemies who jointly working on the destruction of Somalia. The external enemies do not want to see Somalia rising the ash, because they envy about the geographical position and the wealth of Somalia,” the president said.

The president urged the officials to put more efforts on defending the country from the enemies.

The move comes amid Somali forces vacated several bases over claims that the government failed to pay their salaries.

Somalia is fighting al-Qaida affiliate Al-Shabaab militants which want topple Western-backed Somali government.

Last week, the group carried out a deadly suicide bomb targeting the headquarters of the country’s Labour ministry.

The attack killed over 15 people and injured more than a dozen.
