Mudug police have announced the arrest of a suspect wanted in connection with a gruesome mass murder against a family.

Mudug regional police commander Qasim Sheikh Doon said they had arrested Aweys Osman Abdi on suspicion of killing four people and injuring five others during an attack at Tabeelaha Sheikh Ibrahim on the 9th of July.

Investigators said that the shooting came after a brief argument.

He is believed to have killed his wife, then, disguised as a woman he proceeded to shoot family members who attended the burial the following day. Police believe Abdi used an AK-47 rifle in the attack.

Regional police said they would hand the suspect over to Somalia’s Criminal Investigation Department in Mogadishu where he will face multiple murder charges.
