Somali security forces have conducted a covert operation in Al-Shabab-controlled village in southern Somalia on 5th January of this new year.

The National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] said in a statement posted on its Twitter account that its personnel destroyed a base belonging to Al-Shabab in Dugulle.

NISA added that the special forces seized several militants during the night-time operation on their camp. There was no independent verification of the spy agency claims.

“The security forces have carried out on 5th January of this year an operation targeting Al-Shabab bastion in Dugulle area and destroyed it,” said NISA in its statement.

NISA troops have in the past months stepped up operations, against Al-Shabaab bases in the Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia.

Last week, US military said it killed militants in the latest airstrikes in the region.
