NISA Says Al-Shabaab Leader Expelled Top Commanders From Executive Council

Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] announced that Al-Shabaab leader Ahmed Dirie ejected two top commanders from the group’s executive council.
NISA said in a Twitter post on Monday that the expulsion of Mahad Karate and Bashir Qorgab came after they recommended Al-Shabaab leader to discontinue attacks against civilians in Mogadishu.
Radio Shabelle cannot independently verify NISA claims.
Al-Shabaab has been battling the Somali government and AU troops for more than a decade and still holds key towns in the country despite losing large swathes of territory, including the capital Mogadishu.
