Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] soldiers have launched on Sunday morning a massive security operation on the southern outskirts of Mogadishu.

Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] soldiers have launched on Sunday morning a massive security operation on the southern outskirts of Mogadishu.

The soldiers have searched for suspects and weapons as they conducted door to door inspection at villages in Weydow and Taredishe [KM-13] areas, according to residents.

Hundreds of people, most of them youths were rounded up during the operation by NISA forces, some have been released instantly while the remaining were taken into custody.

A police officer who declined to named has confirmed to Radio Shabelle that the operation was aimed at ensuring peace and security in the districts by flushing out the Al-Shabab elements.

The Somali government has been trying to secure the seaside city and the surrounding areas which witnessed several deadly attacks Al Shabaab in the past few months.

Al-Shabaab fighters who wanted topple the internationally recognized Somali government have been attacking government institutions, hotels, and military bases.
