The Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Benadir Region, Eng Omar Osman Yarisow and a delegation he is leading are in the United Arab Emirates [UAE] for a working visit.
The mayor has received a warm welcome from the Somali community in UAE, whom he praised for their commitment to contribute to the ongoing transformation in the capital.
“Somali community in UAE played an outstanding role in the recovery of the country and current development, I encourage you to double your efforts and contribution,” he said.
Although the peace and stability remain fragile, more Somalis are returning to Mogadishu than ever before, rediscovering the home they hadn’t seen in decades, and for some young diaspora, had never seen.
Somalia’s weak UN-backed government is struggling to rebuild the country but insecurity caused mainly by al-Shabab remains its greatest challenge.
