Troop movement has been reported on several areas in Baay region of southern Somalia for the second day after armed Al-Shabab fighters seized briefly Gofgadud on Saturday.

The military activities massively felt on the outskirts of Baidoa city, which serves as the interim administrative capital of Southwest State of Somalia, according to the sources.

The Villagers are in a panic and expressed fear over the ongoing movement by Somali government forces, along with Southwest regional soldiers on one side and Al Shabaab.

Al Shabaab has stepped up attacks on government-controlled towns in the south and central regions of the Horn of Africa in what believe to be an attempt to show its muscle.

Last Saturday, armed militants rolled in Gofgadud, about 30Km north of Baidoa after allied troops pulled out of the area, but, regained the control hours after Al-Shabaab’s retreat.
