Members of Somalia’s Lower House chamber of Parliament have called for the resignation of the Speaker Mohamed Osman Jawari as the deadlock over the motion against him widens.
Speaking at a news conference in Mogadishu on Saturday, the opposition MPs accused the long-serving Speaker of violating the constitution and parliamentary procedures.
The call comes in the wake of worsening political rift in Mogadishu as more than 100 lawmakers have signed out a motion of no confidence against Jawari last week.
The current standoff has affected the normal seatings of the lower House and led the Senate to form a 7-member committee to mediate the rival MPs in the national assembly.
