Kenyan Soldier Appears In Court Over Kidnapping Of Three Somalis

A Kenyan Military soldier was arraigned in court over kidnapping charges on Wednesday.

Mohamed Sharmake Abdi of Kahawa Barracks and his accomplices were arrested for Kidnapping three Somali nationals.

Mr. ABdi was detained alongside Abdi Hamid – a Kemu student.

The others arrested at Eastleigh Section 3 are Abdikalif Mohammed Noor, Ahmed Abdullahi Abdi – driver, and Salah Abdi.

According to a statement by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects were demanding a ransom of Sh5,000 ($50) from the abductees.

“The soldier, No. 95592, Private Mohamed Sharmake Abdi of Kahawa Barracks, Abdi Hamid Mohamed Abdi a Student at the Kenya Methodist University,  Mr. Abdikalif Mohammed Noor, Ahmed Abdullahi Abdi, and Salah Abdi were accused of kidnapping three persons in Eastleigh,” the DCI said in the statement.

Three victims were freed after the recorded statement at DCI Centre.

“The three victims of the kidnap ordeal were released,” DCI said.

According to the court, hearing their case has been moved to next month after the prosecution urged the court for time to conclude the investigations.
