Kenya government will spearhead dialogue between Borana and Somali elders with a view to ease tension among communities in Garissa and Isiolo Counties.

Isiolo County Commissioner John Ondego told KBC that police are investigating reports that individuals could be mobilizing bandits to stage attacks against some communities along the Isiolo/Garissa border.

Ondego added that his office has also embarked on dialogue between warring communities to sensitize them on the need to coexist peacefully.

Ondego said security had been enhanced following an alert by police headquarters in Nairobi.

The National Police Service had warned through its twitter handle that bandits are targeting Modogashe, Skanska, Janju, Bulo, Eldere and other market centres in the area.

The police are now warning those found mobilizing or inciting communities to fight that they will face the full force of the law.

On Saturday, Garissa County Commissioner Joshua Chepchieng said that he had deployed security personnel along the border with Isiolo to boost security.

Chepchieng said he was liaising with his counterpart in Isiolo to maintain security, and appealed to area residents to report anyone with ill intentions.
