The officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said the Immigration and Naturalization agency is extremely saddened by the inconvenience and halt of the services and apologized to the public at large.

The immigration department has been working tirelessly around the clock to the modernization and restructuring in the procedures of acquiring the passport compatible with the country’s transformation.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We also share with the public that the system is currently under upgrading and the issues will be fixed at the shortest time possible,” they said.

The service has been in pause for two weeks, due to the ongoing expansion and changes.

“The Department sincerely apologizes for the delays in passport issuance and the inconvenience that this has caused to our fellow Somalis. The Department assures the public that it is taking all the necessary steps to ensure that passports are issued on time and appeals to the public for its kind understanding on this matter,” they further added.

In the past few years, Somali Immigration department has succeeded to open centers in cities in the country, thereby facilitating the public access to the passport in their regions.
