At least four Kenya police officers have been injured in Mandera town after unknown assailants hurled a grenade at a security checkpoint.

The attack took place at 3 pm Tuesday afternoon, according to Mandera County Commissioner Kutswa Olaka.

“We have so far confirmed injuries of four officers after the attackers threw a grenade at a security checkpoint,” he said.

The assailant reportedly fled from the scene shortly after the attack.

Kutswa said the officers are now recuperating at Mandera County referral hospital.

The commissioner confirmed that investigations are currently underway said the four border patrol police officers were manning border point 4 when the attackers hurled a grenade at them.
