Somalia’s former intelligence chief General Abdirahman Turyare has accused the military of attempting to assassinate him following indiscriminate firing on his convoy.

General Turyare told journalists his convoy and that of former Somali National Army commandant General Mohamud Koronto was hit by bullets as they left the residence of former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

“Our convoy was attacked at about 11pm in Miranayo area,” said Turyare. “I suspect they planned to kill me.”

He said those behind the attack will be held accountable and warned the commanders in charge of the military against being used for political reasons.

Federal MP Mahad Salad said the soldiers who carried out the attacks were drawn from the Dufaan brigade who were trained in Eritrea.
