Farmajo Hails Ethiopian’s New PM No Interference Policy Towards Somalia

The President of the Federal Government of Somalia has said he succeeded to stop interference from neighboring states into Somali internal affairs.

Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo said his government has convinced regional states in the Horn of Africa about the significance of respect to sovereignty and political independence in the region.

In a video circulated and sent to the media by the Villa communication office, the President stressed the importance of regional states in respecting the political and territorial independence of his federal state and how the move can benefit the stability and security in Somalia and the region in general.

” For the first time in 30 years, our neighbors are ready to closely work with us by completely keeping off our internal affairs,” The President said.

Farmajo added that his meeting with former Ethiopian PM Hailemaryam Desaleyn shortly after coming to power discussed how Addis Ababa should cease interference into Somali politics through its support for regional leaders.

The President comments come just days after he returned from meeting in Bahr Dar in Ethiopia with Eritrea President and Ethiopian PM.

Under the leadership of Abiy Ahmed, Addis is seen as taking difference stance than previous governments on its foreign policy aimed at Mogadishu.
