Details about Mohamed terror suspect wanted by Kenya revealed

On the morning of November 9, 2021- Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) chief, George Kinoti, listed the five most-wanted terror suspects in the country.  

However, the family denied claims that Abubakar was armed and dangerous after Kinoti released his name.

Others who are also wanted alongside Abubakar include; Salim Rashid Mohamed alias Cho-tara, Trevor Ndwiga alias Idris Jamal, Barigi Abdikadir Haila and Elgiva Bwire. Anyone with information that will lead to their whereabouts was assured by Kenya’s top spy George Kinoti of Sh10 million.

Police sources said that Abubakar had links to terrorism and was closely associated with Salim Mohamed Rashid, aka Chotara, a commander of the Islamic States Wilayaat in Congo.

Investigations reveal that he was also associated with Abdulhakim Sagaar, Hashbel Karama, aka Abu Ghuraba, who police sources said was a radicalizer at Masjid Jamia and Jama Din, who is also a recruiter.

It is to this effect that Kenyan police said that Abubakar was dangerous and armed. Security sources allege that he has been radical since his teens.

Abubakar is linked to one Salim Mohamed Rashid, who left the Coastal region for Congo and was recently captured in a viral video as he bragged about his experience fighting with IS.

Rashid was trained on putting together and ensuring that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explodes.

Abubakar claims he is a Swahili poet and a Nasheed artist based on Swahili, Arabic and English languages, a perfect cover for symbol/coded communication.

The militant went to Liwatoni Muslim School, and until he disappeared, he was a student at Ummah University, where he studied Business Management.

The terror suspect was last seen at Masjid Musa Mosque, located in Majengo, Mombasa county- the mosque is known to be a recruitment center for militants from Kenya.

Kenyan authorities say the mosque was a hotbed for radicalism and a fertile recruiting ground for youth who either join IS or Al Shabaab.

This week, Strategic Intelligence Services (S.I.S) reported that most of the youth who join I.S from Kenya could be traced to Goma and Butembo in Congo.

It further stated that Abubakar was behind the linking of the youth to Congo through the Masjid Musa Mosque.

“He recruited the youths and even planned their logistics to Congo by getting them temporary jobs as ‘turn-boys for trucks’ destined for DRC,” S.I.S reported.

Once in Congo, they spend their night or day at Goma and Bukavu cities inside two mosques before being picked up by I.S fighters who take them to terrorist training camps in Beni deep in Kivu prefecture.
