 Somali songstress famous for her songs on love and patriotism Fadumo Ali Nkruumahha died of COVID-19 in Mogadishu.

Family and friends confirmed the death of Fadumo after her admission at De Martini hospital, which handles COVID-19 cases in Somalia.

 

Fadumo has been active in Somalia’s music scene for over 30 years. The collapse of Somalia’s central government did not lead to waning in her popularity.

Somalis around the world have paid tribute to the deceased singer for her contribution to Somali art.

She will be remembered as a member of the famous Waaberi band. Fadumo lived in Canada before returning to her native Somalia in 2018, where she lived until her death.

COVID-19 has risen steadily in Somalia in the last three weeks amid fears of a second wave. The Ministry of Health said Saturday, 15 people died of the disease in two days as 257 others contracted the pandemic.
