AU Troops’ Convoy Targeted In Landmine Explosion In Somalia

A witness says a powerful landmine explosion struck a military convoy carrying African Union peacekeepers in Southern Somalia on Tuesday night.

The attack took place in Shalanbood town, near the port city of Marka, Lower Shabelle regional capital early in the evening after troops came under IED blast.

Al-Shabab said a roadside bomb has ripped through two of the military personnel carriers and inflicted casualties on the AU soldiers, but, the number has not been verified until now.

Meanwhile, the African Union mission in Somalia, known as AMISOM has not yet released own statement in relation to the attack on the peacekeepers in Lower Shabelle region.
