Al-Shabaab fighters were reported to have attacked a Somali special forces’ base in Lower Shabelle region on Monday morning.
The attack occurred at K-60, where soldiers from the US-trained Danab unit are stationed.
The ambush has sparked hours-long gunfight between the militants and Danab troops which inflicted casualties on both sides, according to the local residents.
It’s yet unclear the exact number of the fatalities.
The attack comes hours after a roadside bomb blast on a convoy carrying Alfa Group forces in Bariire village, which is located about 60-km southwest of Mogadishu.
