Somali National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) has held the election of the Parliamentary seat vacated by Hussein Osman Hussein, former head of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

The poll agency has announced the results, and Ali Sheikh was declared the election.

Sheikh has garnered 51 out of the 51 votes to win the seat as his opponent Saed Ali got no votes.

There were no invalid or spoilt votes.

Officials from NIEC who were at the polling centre said the voting was free and fair.

The process was observed by officials from Southwest state and Federal Government representatives.

Sheikh previously served two terms in eighth and nineth parliament before he went abroad.

According to sources, he returned to the country two months ago to take part in the electoral process.
